A Matter Of Hope

Justine gazed solemnly around the bustling airport at the masses of humanity as they rushed about their lives. None would know of her successful business meetings, or of the interesting places she'd been or the conversations she'd had. None of them could know that she had met a man who had managed to undermine all of the barriers that she had so carefully constructed. None could know that she was sneaking off; leaving without his knowledge.
She had spent four days in his company, visiting restaurants and theatres and enjoying the best things that the town had to offer. Each evening after her business appointments were completed, she'd decided to stay on a while longer--to be with him. They'd laughed and talked and shared many things. She'd done more than she'd expected, felt more, given more. And that was what was so frightening.
She felt as if her life were at the edge of a precipice. Behind her was the safe haven of her life as she knew it. Before her was the wide expanse of taking a chance; of learning to fly. She'd convinced herself that she was a woman and not a bird, and that it was time to get on with it. It was time to turn back, and head for home.

Adam stood solemnly against a departures monitor, oblivious to the thing around him; having eyes for only one woman. He witnessed her silent struggles with her own fears. He wouldn't fight her, or try to convince her that he would never intentionally hurt her. He only waited.
The time that they had spent together convinced him of where his heart was on the matter. And hers. He could wait for her, because he was convinced that someday soon, this lovely woman would realize that she had wings and not only would they fly, they would soar.
